Mulberry Silk Throws

According to the Zegna "The Silk Throw is a product with unique features, produced with a mélange carded yarn in pure Mulberry silk. It is a unique product because all processes, from the creation of the yarn to weaving and final finishing. The process is exclusive of the Ermenegildo Zegna wool mill. The peculiarity of the yarn and of the processing allows to obtain a perfect garzatura, realized with raising machines made out of plant thistles (these thistles do not attack the fiber as the metal gauze). These special thistles distinctive create a wonderful looseness and softness that gives the fabric a similar hand to that of cashmere."

The Ermenegildo Zegna Cloth Cashmere Story: Cashmere is a particularly rare and precious fiber.

Prince of Scots Throws featuring Cashmere by Ermenegildo Zegna
production of cashmere is only five million kilograms in fact. Cashmere fibers are obtained from a certain species of goat, commonly known as the Kashmir goat, which is bred in places such Iran, Russia, Afghanistan, Turkey and India. But the most beautiful and most prestigious cashmere in the world comes from the highlands of Inner Mongolia, in China, a territory with a very harsh climate. Inner Mongolia Cashmere is outstanding for the fineness of its fibers (14 – 15 µ), their length and uniformity and for the particularly soft handle they give. To protect themselves from the cold, Kashmir goats have two coats: one superficial, of bulky hair, and one closer to the body, consisting of a short, fine and very warm down known as duvet. In springtime, shepherds collect the wool manually using special combs with long teeth. The fibers of the two coats are then separated, because only the duvet makes real cashmere.

Today, Ermenegildo Zegna, the more than a century-old, Biella-based, family-run textile and luxury goods group, supplies some of the world’s most prestigious tailors and garment manufacturers including Prince of Scots and Southampton Home.

It’s a fourth generation fashion and luxury lifestyle empire spanning 14 factories (seven in Italy; seven overseas), 500-plus stores globally, and three ready-to-wear lines, as well as men’s couture, made-to-measure and luxury accessories. Like Ferrari, it’s one of the most famous and most desirable of Italian luxury brands, which makes the cashmere fabrics perfect for the Southampton Home Collection.
