MEET YOUR THROW: THE SHETLAND SHEEP BEHIND THE COMFORT

At Prince of Scots, every throw has a story—woven not just in thread, but in heritage, sustainability, and a deep connection to nature. As we launch our Gentleman’s Collection made from authentic Shetland wool, we invite you to meet the sheep behind the luxury.

A Heritage from the Edge of the World

Shetland Sheep are a small, resilient breed that hail from the remote Shetland Islands of Scotland. For over a thousand years, they’ve roamed the rugged coastal hills, developing thick, soft fleeces perfectly suited to the harsh northern climate. This heritage breed produces wool known for its fine texture, warmth, and lightweight durability—a perfect match for heirloom-quality throws.

Nature’s Perfect Fiber

Each Shetland sheep produces an average of 2 to 4 pounds of fleece per year. Their wool is prized for its:

  • Natural crimp for elasticity

  • Soft hand that rivals luxury fibers

  • Rich variety of natural colors from moorit browns to silvery greys

This wool is breathable in summer, insulating in winter, and always elegant.

“From One Sheep, One Throw”

The Prince of Scots Shetland Throw: A Legacy in Every Thread

Each year, a Shetland sheep produces just 2 to 4 pounds of wool.
Prince of Scots Highland Tweeds throw are woven with range 1.6 to 2.5  pounds of that rare fleece.

That means a single throw represents nearly half of a sheep’s entire annual coat.

One sheep. One season. One heirloom.

This isn’t mass production—it’s a relationship with nature. A moment in time, harvested, spun, and woven into something meaningful.

Crafted from pure Shetland wool, our throws are:

  • All-natural and fully biodegradable

  • Renewable with every spring shearing

  • Exclusive, born of tradition and intention

To own one is to hold part of a story that began on the wind-swept hills of Scotland.
A story you can wrap around your shoulders.

Sustainably Raised

The farmers who raise Shetland sheep continue centuries-old practices of pasture grazing and low-impact husbandry. Shetland wool is shorn annually, a humane process that keeps the sheep healthy and comfortable. The fleece is washed, spun, and woven with minimal chemical processing, reducing environmental impact and preserving the wool’s natural character.

Sustainable. Biodegradable. Timeless.

Wool is one of nature’s most sustainable fibers. It’s:

  • 100% renewable—sheep regrow fleece every year

  • Biodegradable—returns to the earth without harm

  • Naturally odor- and stain-resistant—lasting longer between washes

Choosing a Shetland wool throw means investing in a product that’s not only good for your home, but also kind to the planet.

The Gentleman’s Touch

The Prince of Scots Gentleman’s Collection elevates traditional style with contemporary British flair. Our Shetland throws are designed to drape over the arm of a Chesterfield chair, line a study with elegance, or accompany a fireside scotch. Each one a soft-spoken symbol of refinement.
